Radio Club
Christmas Dinner Meeting 2003
News Article
The December meeting, Christmas dinner and Club Awards
presentation
was held at the Castleton MCL cafeteria on Friday evening the
12th.
Club members began the trek towards the MCL cafeteria only
to be greeted
by the Indy north side traffic snarl caused mostly by an accident
on the
I69 interstate highway just north of the I465 loop.
"Who said Amateur Radio wasn't Challenging?"
The 146.70
repeater was busy with lots of traffic reports
and suggestions for the arrival
path to our dinner site.
As always the MCL dinner staff were very accommodating
and
the food not only offered selection but good taste
and plenty of dinner
conversation to start the great evening of family
Ham radio fun.
President Bill goodall-K9DBY began the club business meeting
with
self-introductions by all attending, and then introduced new 2004 club
officers. A brief and short business meeting followed.

Chuck Crist- W9IH; Awards committee and Bill - K9DBY made
eight (8) Awards presentations
of appreciation for Amateur radio community
service in the Indianapolis Area; to :
Gale - AA9WU, John - W9GRE, Steve - KB9RDS, Steve - N9OI,Maria - KB9RLG, Mike - KB9RBF,

Vice Pres. Trevor - N9YM presented our Guest speaker Mr. Josh Laycock from the Indianapolis
Motor Speedway.
Josh is one of the IMS staff Historians and presented our group with a lot of
information handouts
about the 500-race tack and its history.
He also gave us a short program about the history and
highlighted some of the major history facts, which presented
some different
challenges for some of the wiser members in attendance.
Did you know that four (4) different years, a Studebaker
was
the pace car for the 500 race?.
Jose also brought along a short video for us about IMS
showing past,
present and future programs.
He invited questions from the group and ended a great
presentation
with some handouts for correct answers to track history trivia
questions.
The last agenda for the evening festivities; certainly not
the least was the clubs award for the
2003 Indianapolis amateur of the year.
This year Mr. Mike Sercer - WA9FDO was presented our clubs honor.
Bill - K9DBY with the traditional "Merry Christmas & Happy New year, closed the meeting."
