The Radio Room Makeover was discussed. Steve Wendt, Dave Jarvis, and Tom Chance all contributed to the effort over 2 Saturdays. A 160m, 80m-10m Windom was erected on the roof. A new 1.6GHz PC donation was received. The new station features the following: SSTV, Digital modes, RTTY, PC Logger program with EQSL capability. Current Radios are: 2m and 440MHz rigs, FT990 for HF. Award Plaques are predominately displayed, as is a Wooden IRC Station Plaque with W9JP call that was presented to the club station. There was a photo-op at the station following the meeting. Dayton Hamvention Bus Trip will depart early morning, Saturday, May 17. The fee will be $30 per person, NOT including admission to the Hamvention. There was discussion of the USS Indianapolis Radio Event. The survivors decided to do this every year. The event will take place either the first or second weekend in June. Upcoming Marion County events were described by Jeff (KC9HSZ). 500 Festival: Signup online at 500festival.com/volunteer Tour de Cure: Volunteers needed Giest Mini-Marathon Run: Volunteers needed Gerald Skoll (KC9DTB) described his Bermuda Sailboat Trip. He made 12 contacts off back of onboard antenna on 20m only; much static on other bands. Next came the program for the evening: ”Legacy Night” First Speaker was VP Dave Miller (K9RTT). Harold (K9YXV,SK) gave him his Novice license exam; Tech license after Novice; used 6m and 2m (144-146MHz); Dave upgraded to General to gain access to 2m (144-148 MHz), soon after Tech could use all of 2m band. NC300 used for 6m 2m and 220MHz; Gonset box was used to add 10, 15, and 20m capability. Later transmitter was Globe Highlander; also had Clegg 2m Zeus. Typical contact rate was 1 contact per week; 6m was as popular as 2m today; There were no repeaters. Dave worked approximately 45 states. His 2m/6m antenna was Finco, manufactured locally. Dave also referenced a brief history of Amateur Radio at www.hamshack.com. Jim (K9RU) talked about a History of his radio equipment, starting with his SB201. John (W9GRE) described his first tuner (a TU6U) he bought for $5 at Essy Radio, his BC348 Receiver, a Multimeter kit, a JT30 mic, and a Bug. Paul (WB9PLU), formerly from S. Jersey, described his ham shack as it appeared in a photo he submitted. Tom Chance (K9XV) spoke about his HW101 and his first contact,--WA9BWY. Door prizes were drawn. The first prize went to Mary Brown (KC9FFO). The second prize was won by Sam (WA9VBG). The third prize was won by Jeff (KC9HSZ). Contact Dr. Jay Wright, KK9L, at 317-203-3335 for more details. 2008 CENTRAL INDIANA SEVERE WEATHER SYMPOSIUM 2008 Central Indiana Severe Weather Symposium The 2008 symposium will be held on Saturday, March 1st, 2008, from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, at the Valle Vista Conference Center , 755 East Main Street, Greenwood, Indiana, and is cosponsored by the Central Indiana Chapter of the American Meteorological Society and National Weather Service Indianapolis. John Lee told of his expected visit to Indpls on his furlough in May. He is studying Army Fixed Station now and then he is to go to Single Side Band School. He reports that his wife regularly sends Amachewer to him and thus keeps up with the local hams. He recently became papa because in closing he mentioned his month old boy. Congrats om.
